The PAL-Charlotte Boxing Academy was created in a partnership with the Charlotte Boxing Academy, Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation and the Police Activities League (PAL). We are a member of USA Boxing, Inc. – the national governing body for all of amateur boxing in the United States. All the coaching staff, as well as, all PAL/CBA members are also members of USA Boxing.
Our mission statement is clear and simple – “HELPING YOUNG PEOPLE GROW”. Amateur boxing is a safe and rewarding sport. Our organizations and coaching staff monitors academics, behavior and appearance. Our motto is “We are respectful young men and women first, students second and boxers third.” Our aim is to help develop the whole person, not just their boxing ability.
The PAL/Charlotte Boxing Academy was created to give boys, girls and young adolescents a safe and rewarding place to be in the after-school hours. We serve both boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 17. We operate year-round (excluding extended holidays and occasional breaks). 8 to 17 year-olds practice from 6:00pm to 7:30pm Monday thru Thursday. Our members learn the skills and dedication they need to compete in amateur boxing. They are trained in boxing and focused on physical fitness.
Those that dedicate themselves to the program and become proficient at a competitive skill level (Junior Olympics, Novice, Open) represent Charlotte as the PAL/CBA competes against other boxing clubs. Our team travels throughout various cities and states on select weekends throughout the year. For many members it is the first time they’ve been outside of Mecklenburg County.
Our elite members may take part in local, regional, state, national or international competitions.
We want you! If you are between age 8 and 17 you can find a home at the Police Activities League (PAL)/Charlotte Boxing Academy Program. You will have fun. You will improve your physical appearance. You will make new friends. You will have the opportunity to travel throughout the Southeast. You will learn to box and you will actually box in competition.
The cost to join is minimal. There is a PAL annual $50 membership fee. Then there is a $10 Boxing program registration fee. Then you will be responsible to pay a $25.00 youth beginner boxing fundamentals class (to be paid at the boxing facility with Coach Simpson). After completion of the Beginner fundamentals class, you will then be responsible for paying a monthly fee of $10.00 for youth ages 8-14, and for youth ages 15-17, you will be responsible for paying a $15.00 monthly fee (fees to be paid at the boxing facility to the PAL/CBA staff only). When you’re ready to box competitively, you will join the national governing body, “USA BOXING”. That membership is $65 a year and covers “USA Boxing” and includes secondary medical insurance should an injury occur on all boxing property or during training or sanctioned boxing matches. And that’s it – everything else the PAL/Charlotte Boxing Academy pays for. It’s the best sports deal in town.
Coach Al Simpson and the PAL/CBA Staff have all completed the selective Criteria of boxing skills training through USA Boxing and are all certified and in good standing with USA Boxing, including attending valuable trainings and completed safe sports training, first aid and background checks.
Volunteer COACHING: If you have an interest or experience in boxing or teaching physical fitness we would like to talk with you about joining our coaching staff. Coach Al Simpson will mentor you in our methods of coaching boys and girls ages 8 to 17. Like our boxers, we need your dedication. Therefore, ideally after completing the necessary background checks, trainings and program introduction sessions with leading staff, a coach would then commit to two or more evenings per week from 5:45pm to 7:30pm. Those that can only make a set night a week may be pooled with another coach.
